SIOUX CITY, IOWA (KTIV) - Mercy Air Care, or MAC, has gone on nearly 9,000 flights, and next month, it'll head up for a special event.

Wednesday, the Mercy Medical staff, along with some of the flight crew, announced a 25th year celebration that will take May 5th.

Mercy's EC 135 helicopter will land near the Marina Inn in South Sioux City, with four guests on board, including United Flight 232 pilot, Captain Al Haynes, and Doctor David Greco, a member of the flight crew that responded to the crash.

That incident is just one of many big events that MAC has responded to.

"From the Terra explosion to the crash of Flight 232 to the very recent, devastating tornadoes at the boy scout camp, we have always seen Mercy Air Care respond and been a vital part of all of those incidents," said Mari Kaptain-Dahlen, Executive Vice President/COO.

One doctor says that each flight wouldn't have been possible without all the knowledgeable staff.

"The work of the excellent staff of Mercy Air Care, the pilots, flight nurses, and the flight medics have a direct and very important impact on the patients' lives and health in the last 25 years," said Dr. Joseph Liewer, Emergency Department Medical Director.

Again, the 25th Anniversary event will take place at six at the Marina Inn on May 5th.

The public is invited to attend.
